Metal Supermarkets Celebrates 30th Anniversary
Metal Supermarkets was founded in October of 1985 as the premier metal solutions provider delivering convenience, variety and fast service to a diverse and wide range of businesses, industries and customers.
The first Metal Supermarkets store opened in Mississauga, Canada, a suburb of Toronto in 1985 and began franchise operations soon after. Within a decade, Metal Supermarkets expanded into the United Kingdom, and in 1995, Metal Supermarkets opened its first store in the US.
Through growth, acquisition and innovation Metal Supermarkets has become a well-known player in the metal distribution industry, and now serves hundreds of thousands of customers across four countries. The Metal Supermarkets brand is well-respected in the industry and has an international reputation for quality products and service, best-in-class customer service and reliable metal expertise.

Bill Mair, Metal Supermarkets’ founder was a veteran of the metal industry and envisioned a new kind of metals distributor that would cater to small quantity buyers and serve a wide and diverse range of industries – while providing efficient, personable service.
Today, Metal Supermarkets and its franchisees operate 78 stores in the United States, Canada, England and Scotland employing over 300 people.
Metal Supermarkets continues to grow and expand operations under the present leadership group, and is adding additional locations in strategic markets on an ongoing basis. Upcoming openings are slated for Richmond, VA and Houston, TX in late 2015 and Raleigh, NC in the 1st quarter of 2016.
